FORCE Formula 2 2021: a review

Our return to Italian racing after a year has been a pretty successful one: we did well in the e-Racing Series Formula Tatuus series in 2020, but we did even better in our FORCE return this year.

FORCE is basically the league where it all started for us, so it was nice to come back for their Formula 2 series. We signed up just after round 1 at Silverstone, so we started racing with one less round under our belts. With a strong lineup with a proven record, we were still confident about a top 3 finish in the teams standings.

So, our first race was round 2 at the Hungaroring. It was a nice debut in the series, with Peter scoring his first podium in the league in race 1 and Massimiliano getting two 4th place finishes.

Portimao saw just one of the two yellow cars on the grid, as Peter wasn’t able to take part. Massimiliano got two more 4th places, but he lost the first one due to a penalty after contact on race 1.

Two weeks later, with Peter back, we had our best round of the season. At Zandvoort, we got a 1-2 finish in race 1 – Peter won ahead of Massimiliano in what was an amazing effort from the team. Race 2 was more quiet, but we still scored plenty of points in that one too.

Then, in Austria, we got another race 1 podium, thanks to Massimiliano’s 3rd place. Peter was involved in a crash but was able to get the points for fastest lap, before getting a strong 5th place in race 2.

Results have been pretty good even if we weren’t too happy with the car, but in the final round at Abu Dhabi our dislike for the F2 mod saw us score just 4 points: Massimiliano got a great start in race 1 and took the lead, but damage after a divebomb from another driver meant tyre wear became even worse, so he had to settle for 6th. Peter was crashed out at turn 1. In race 2, both drivers had their first DNF of the season.

Even with a disappointing season finale and after missing round 1, we were still able to get 3rd place in the teams standings, a very good result which sees us ending 2021 on an high note. In the drivers standings, Massimiliano ended the season in 6th, while Peter was just one place behind.
